In many rural communities, menstruation is still surrounded by silence, shame, and misinformation. Young girls often experience their first period without understanding what is happening to their bodies—afraid, unprepared, and unsupported. Even adult women carry years of stigma, myths, and unhealthy practices that affect their dignity and well-being.
Regenboog’s Happy Period Project was created to break this silence with knowledge, compassion, and dignity. We believe that something as natural as menstruation should never limit a girl’s confidence, education, or health. Through this initiative, we are creating safe spaces where conversations once considered “taboo” are finally spoken openly and respectfully.
At the heart of this project is a carefully developed, resourceful Tamil-language book, designed to be simple, culturally relevant, and easy to understand. This book reaches school-going girls as well as women in the community, helping them learn about menstrual health, hygiene, body awareness, and self-care in a way that feels accessible and empowering.
Our sessions go beyond distributing information—they create understanding. Through interactive discussions, guidance, and open dialogue, girls begin to shed fear and embarrassment. Women begin to question long-held myths. Slowly, knowledge replaces shame, and confidence replaces hesitation.
The impact is deeply personal. A girl who understands her body attends school without fear. A woman who feels informed carries herself with dignity. The Happy Period Project is not just about awareness—it is about restoring confidence, health, and respect to something that has been misunderstood for far too long.
Our workshops are conducted in a safe, women-only environment by trained female health educators. Topics cover menstrual hygiene, nutrition, reproductive health basics, and how to access healthcare services.
We distribute biodegradable sanitary pads at no cost, and also run awareness sessions on how to make reusable cloth pads as a sustainable, low-cost alternative.
The program also works with the adolescent girls at our evening schools, ensuring that menstrual health education reaches the youngest generation early.
